Charles Stoddart


 
Dr Stoddart served as a Sheriff for over 20 years between 1988 and 2009, initially in Paisley and latterly in Edinburgh. More recently he held commissions as Temporary Sheriff Principal in South Strathclyde and Grampian. Dr Stoddart was the first Director of Judicial Studies from 1997-2000, establishing training programmes for Judges and Sheriffs. He was a member of the MacLean Committee on serious violent and sexual offenders from 1999-2000; the Sentencing Commission for Scotland from 2003-2006; and the Supreme Court Review Group advising the Scottish Government on the legislation regarding human rights appeals to the Supreme Court. Dr Stoddart was appointed to the Parole Board in November 2011.
