Michael Duffy
Mr Duffy joined the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) in 1972 and during a career which spanned 38 years worked with a wide range of offenders across Scotland. Much of his career was with long term prisoners where the issues surrounding parole and preparation for release were prominent. He served as Governor in both Penninghame and Perth prisons prior to being appointed to the SPS Board in 1999. Thereafter much of his focus was on managing record prisoner numbers while also improving the prison estate and introducing common performance standards across Scotland's prisons. He retired as Director of Prisons in 2009. Mr Duffy was appointed to the Parole Board in November 2011.
